Polarization describes the orientation of the electric field of an electromagnetic wave.
Types of Polarization
- Linear polarization
- Circular polarization
- Elliptical polarization
Linear Polarization
Electric field oscillates along one fixed direction.
Circular Polarization
The electric field rotates as the wave propagates.
The electric field components are:
Ex = E0 cos(ωt)
Ey = E0 sin(ωt)
These two components produce circular polarization.
