1. Basic Terminology
- MOSFET types:
- NMOS → electrons (faster)
- PMOS → holes (slower)
- Terminals: Gate (G), Drain (D), Source (S), Body (B)
- Key Voltages:
- VGS : Gate–Source voltage
- VDS : Drain–Source voltage
- VT : Threshold voltage
Regions of Operation
1. Cutoff Region (OFF)
VGS < VT

No channel formed
2. Linear / Triode Region
VGS > VT,
VDS < (VGS - VT)

Acts like a resistor
3. Saturation Region
VGS > VT,
VDS ≥ (VGS - VT)

Used in amplifiers
3. k Parameter
k = (1/2) μ Cox (W / L)
Controls current strength. Higher W/L → higher current.
4. Transconductance (gm)
gm = 2k (VGS - VT)
gm = 2ID / (VGS - VT)
gm = 2ID / (VGS - VT)
Output Resistance (ro)
ro = 1 / (λ ID)
6. Channel Length Modulation
ID = k (VGS - VT)2 (1 + λVDS)
7. Body Effect
