Minimum Receivable Signal (MDS) Calculation

To find the minimum receivable signal (MDS), we use the thermal noise formula:

Pmin = kTB · F

In dB form:

Pmin (dBm) = -174 + 10 log10(B) + NF

Where:

  • -174 dBm/Hz = thermal noise at T = 290K
  • B = bandwidth in Hz
  • NF = noise figure in dB

Step 1: Convert Bandwidth

B = 25 MHz = 25 × 106

10 log10(25 × 106) = 10 log10(25) + 10 log10(106)

= 13.98 + 60 = 73.98 dB

Step 2: Add Values

Pmin = -174 + 73.98 + 9

= -91.02 dBm
