1. SCR Structure Diagram (PNPN)
Anode (+) | P | N |---- Gate (G) P | N | Cathode (-)
4 layers: P–N–P–N
3 terminals: Anode (A), Cathode (K), Gate (G)
2. Regions of Operation
Forward Blocking Region (OFF)
- Anode positive but no gate signal
- Only small leakage current flows
Forward Conduction Region (ON)
- Gate pulse is applied
- SCR turns ON and current increases rapidly
Reverse Blocking Region
- Anode is negative
- SCR blocks current (like reverse-biased diode)
3. Important Parameters
- Breakover Voltage (VBO) – Voltage at which SCR turns ON without gate
- Latching Current (IL) – Minimum current to stay ON
- Holding Current (IH) – Below this SCR turns OFF
4. Summary
“Gate ON → stays ON → current zero → OFF”
