What is the Order of a Filter?

First Order Filter

The transfer function contains only one pole and one zero.

Second Order Filter

Contains two poles.

N-Order Filter

Contains N number of poles

Conclusion

The number of poles indicates the order of a filter. The higher the order, the steeper the stop-band.
